Ulu Cami, Yıldırım Bayezid tarafından 1396-1399 yılları arasında yaptırılmıştır. Yıldırım Bayezid 1396 Niğbolu zaferi sonrasında Bursa'da 20 adet mescit yaptırmak istemiş ancak dönemin önemli âlimlerinden olan damadı Emir Sultan'ın önerisiyle 20 kubbeli Ulu Cami'yi yaptırmıştır.
